Political strategist Steve Schmidt, who previously worked on former President George W. Bush’s campaign, has sharply criticized Donald Trump, claiming that his presidency is already unraveling. On Saturday, Schmidt took aim at Trump’s recent behavior, starting with his interactions with Senate Democrat Chuck Schumer. Schmidt likened Trump to someone who "petted and scratched Chuck Schumer’s head and extended his small Trump paw for licking."
Schmidt also condemned Trump’s recent speech at the Justice Department, accusing him of undermining the rule of law with "fevered declarations about revenge, conspiracies, locking up his opponents, and the illegal media that are a threat to America because they don’t worship the king." He questioned, "What is the sin of America’s broken media? What is the failure?"
Turning to those who have supported Trump, Schmidt criticized individuals like Marco Rubio and Democratic lawmakers who confirmed him. "How many Democratic votes did he get for confirmation? The correct answer was all 47 Democratic votes," Schmidt wrote. "This moment demands coherence and guts. It demands integrity and fierceness. Something terrible is happening in America, and there are too many anesthesiologists working in media and politics."
Schmidt then declared that Trump's presidency is already in a state of crisis, attributing it to his "incoherence, lack of discipline, focus, basic competence, and connection to the grassroots." He noted that some of Trump’s supporters, such as Laura Ingraham of Fox News, continue to excuse his actions, with Ingraham recently saying Trump is "good for business" and advising people to "ignore" market uncertainty.
However, Schmidt warned, "Everyone will experience what is coming, and already is." He continued, "Real damage will find its way to everyone in America. When the scar is left, everyone will have a specific place to look and remember what MAGA did to them and our country. There will be no hiding the mark or the cost."
In conclusion, Schmidt remarked, "Each day, madness swirls from dawn to dusk as Donald Trump produces his masterpiece." He likened Trump to a circus performer, "sitting in the center ring with a whip in his hand behind the most powerful desk in the world," yet remaining a mystery to those who should be able to see through his actions.
