Trump's secret pact with Putin: A warning from Lithuania

Former Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis has expressed strong concerns about the potential existence of a secret agreement between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, drawing parallels to the infamous Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact of 1939. In a series of posts on the platform X, Landsbergis warns that such a pact may already be in place and urges immediate action to prevent history from repeating itself. "We didn’t know then that it had all been agreed in advance in the secret Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact. Today, we have no excuse for such naivety. It’s a safe bet that the Trump-Putin Pact already exists—and we should act accordingly," he writes.

Landsbergis, who served as Lithuania’s foreign minister, asserts that a covert alliance between Trump and Putin is not merely speculative but a reality. He emphasizes that the international community must not remain passive in the face of this threat.

"There are some things we will never change with nice words or smart clothing. If you are worried about those things, you should understand where Trump's tactics come from. From Russia," he states, suggesting that Trump’s strategies are heavily influenced by Russian interests.

According to Landsbergis, Trump’s administration has been seeking alignment with Putin, offering concessions that could have far-reaching implications for global security. "Trump is seeking alignment with Putin. Putin has asked for concessions, and concessions have been promised. We may not know the full extent of those promises, but we must be prepared for all of it," he warns.

He speculates that these concessions could involve critical issues such as Ukraine’s sovereignty, military support, security guarantees, and its political future. However, he notes that openly acknowledging such a deal would be politically damaging, leading the Trump administration to "use any means necessary to cover its tracks."

Landsbergis draws on his personal experiences from the 1990s to illustrate the dangers of unchecked aggression. He recalls the Russian aggression on the streets of Lithuanian cities during that time, describing how individuals were routinely robbed and assaulted. "If you had a cigarette, they took it. If you had money, they took it. If you gave them nothing, they hit you just because," he recounts.

He argues that the same logic of domination and submission applies not only to street-level violence but also to geopolitics. "It’s not about the minerals, or the elections, or any of it. It’s about submission," he asserts, emphasizing that the ultimate goal of such aggression is to establish control and dominance.

Landsbergis concludes by urging the international community to take decisive action to counter this threat. He warns that failure to do so could lead to devastating consequences, echoing the lessons of history. His message is clear: the world must not be caught off guard by a potential Trump-Putin pact, and proactive measures are essential to safeguard global stability and sovereignty.

  1. The United States Constitution is full of checks and balances. Has Trump in any way overstepped his authority as defined in the Constitution. If so, how is the nation then defended?
