Russian forces launched approximately 40 Iranian-made Shahed attack drones overnight, targeting civilian infrastructure across multiple Ukrainian regions, including Donetsk, Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Sumy, Chernihiv, Poltava, Kharkiv, Kirovohrad, Dnipropetrovsk, and Cherkasy. Both leaders reportedly agreed to pursue an “energy and infrastructure ceasefire,” alongside technical talks to implement a maritime ceasefire in the Black Sea, as a precursor to a comprehensive truce and lasting peace.
In response, Zelenskyy expressed conditional support for halting strikes on energy facilities, stating, “If both sides commit, Ukraine is prepared to support a cessation of attacks on energy infrastructure.” He framed the proposal as part of a broader initiative to secure critical zones, referencing “the sky and the sea” as focal points for de-escalation. However, he reiterated skepticism toward Moscow’s intentions, noting that Russia’s persistent targeting of civilians and vital services undermines trust.
The overnight drone strikes—the latest in a series of systematic attacks on Ukraine’s power grid and medical facilities—have intensified calls for Western allies to expedite air defense deliveries and humanitarian support.
